The Nintendo Switch 2 release of Borderlands 4 has been put on hold indefinitely. The game launched earlier this month to widespread backlash over its disastrous optimization, running poorly across both consoles and high-end PCs. A Switch 2 release was initially scheduled for the coming weeks, but that plan has now been scrapped.
According to the developers, the delay comes down to the need for further development and polish. They also hope to better align the release with the planned addition of cross-save support, which the team says remains a top priority.
In line with Nintendo’s policies, all digital pre-orders have been canceled. Players can request a refund immediately, or the process will happen automatically beginning September 26. Those who pre-ordered physical editions are advised to contact their respective retailers for further details.
The troubled launch has also fueled controversy around Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford, whose social media comments defending the PC version — and suggesting unhappy players should “just get a refund” — only added fuel to the fire.
