Helldivers 2 Update: Redacted Regiment Warbond and Stealth-Focused Patch 5.0.2 Are Live

The wait is finally over for Helldivers 2 operatives. Following a brief tactical delay, the Redacted Regiment Warbond has officially dropped alongside the “Into the Unjust” update (Patch 5.0.2). This isn’t just a content drop; it’s a fundamental shift in how we spread Managed Democracy, introducing a complete overhaul of stealth mechanics and the high-stakes “Commando” missions that force players behind enemy lines.

Silent and Deadly: Stealth Mechanics Overhauled

Arrowhead Game Studios has made it clear: Democracy doesn’t always need to shout. The 5.0.2 patch implements significant improvements to stealth dynamics, making suppressed weapons a viable—and lethal—option for the first time in a meaningful way.

Through technical adjustments, the noise radius of firing suppressed weapons has been reduced by approximately 50%.

This change allows Helldiver squads to infiltrate enemy territory with significantly less risk of triggering a bot drop or bug breach. Furthermore, the detection logic for heavy hitters like Devastators, Berserkers, and Chargers has been tweaked. Their “threat perception” range when shots are fired near them (but miss) has been lowered, allowing for tighter tactical control during engagements.

New Mission Type: Commando Missions

One of the update’s headline features is the introduction of Commando Missions. These operations send Helldivers deep into hostile territory where Super Earth lacks air superiority, making standard Destroyer support a risky business.

Here is what makes Commando missions different:

  • Limited Support: Reinforcements and stratagems aren’t available on demand in the traditional sense. They must be pre-planned and deployed strategically.
  • Strategic Depth: Run-and-gun tactics will likely result in failure. Players must prioritize stealth, coordination, and tactical control over overwhelming firepower.

These missions went live alongside the Warbond today (January 22) at 13:00 GMT / 14:00 CET.

Important Storage Update for PC Players

After weeks of stress testing and community feedback, Arrowhead has pulled the trigger on a major optimization for the PC client. The “Slim PC Build” is now the default version for all players.

While the legacy (larger file size) version will remain accessible for a short transition period to ensure stability, the studio plans to sunset it permanently in the near future. This move optimizes disk usage, making storage management more efficient for everyone—a welcome change given the increasing size of modern titles.

Future Plans and The Road to February

The Redacted Regiment Warbond, originally slated for January 20 but delayed slightly to meet quality standards, is now fully deployable. Arrowhead has teased that this is just the beginning of a busy quarter, with much more content scheduled for February and beyond.

According to recent leaks circulating in the community, we may soon see a new sub-faction related to the Automatons entering the fray, though official confirmation is still pending.

Finish the job for Super Earth.
