The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Announces Cross-Platform Mod Support!

The Witcher 3 to Receive Cross-Platform Mod Support for its 10th Anniversary

CD PROJEKT RED has announced a major update for players and mod creators in honor of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s 10th anniversary. With this new patch, set to release before the end of 2025, the game will gain mod sharing support across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

The update will enable uploading, sharing, and downloading mods through the mod.io platform. This will allow players on different platforms to access a common mod pool.

Key Highlights:

  • The update will be completely free and available to all owners of The Witcher 3.
  • Console users will only be able to access mods via mod.io. However, PC users can continue to use existing mod-sharing platforms.
  • To use mod.io, you’ll need to create an account and link it to your CD PROJEKT RED account.
  • Mods can be published on all platforms as long as they comply with content guidelines and the user agreement. However, some mods may only be available on PC due to platform limitations.
  • The official mod development tool, called REDkit, will be mandatory for console mods. Mods containing scripts can only be developed with REDkit. However, this requirement does not apply to textures, packages, and similar assets.
  • REDkit provides players with the same tools used in the development of The Witcher 3. This tool will allow mod developers to make deep-seated changes to the game.

Where Will Mod Sharing Take Place?

All mods can be uploaded and shared via The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt hub on mod.io. The approval process for consoles will be stricter, and mods created with REDkit will be prioritized for review.

With this update, CD PROJEKT RED aims to make The Witcher 3’s modding community more accessible and unified. The exact release date for the full patch hasn’t been announced yet, but more information will be shared as the launch approaches.
