Back in 2023, the tactical FPS Unrecord broke the internet. Its initial gameplay footage was so photorealistic that it sparked a widespread “is this real or a game?” debate across social media. Today, developer DRAMA announced a major milestone: the project has finally secured the necessary funding to complete development. However, fans will have to be patient—the studio has set its sights on 2026 for the next major reveal.
From “Bedroom Coders” to a Full-Fledged Studio
In an official statement, the studio shared candid details about the project’s humble origins. When that famous trailer dropped in 2023, the team consisted of just “two bedroom programmers” with absolutely no industry experience. At that time, the game was only six months into development. Despite limited finances and starting from scratch, the project exceeded all expectations.
Fast forward to today, and DRAMA has grown into a team of 10 developers and is actively recruiting. The studio noted that their investors were able to play the game firsthand, placing their trust in the team to deliver the best possible version of Unrecord.
A Long Wait for New Footage
With funding secured, the studio is shifting its full focus to the production phase. However, this comes with a timeline that might test the patience of eager fans. The developers have decided to avoid revealing unfinished work or “vertical slices” to ensure they keep raising the bar. Consequently, they announced that no new updates will be shared until 2026, at which point they will reveal content reflecting their true final vision.
What We Know About Unrecord
Unrecord is being developed as a single-player FPS that puts players in the shoes of a tactical police officer through a body-camera perspective. Pushing the boundaries of Unreal Engine 5, the title promises an immersive narrative featuring complex dialogue options, innovative gameplay mechanics, and tough moral dilemmas.
Describing the project as a “human adventure” that cannot be built overnight, the DRAMA team emphasized their responsibility to create one of the most immersive games ever made without compromise.
