The gaming world’s most beloved pirate adventure is making a comeback! Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, which was rumored to be released last January but then went silent and was thought to be delayed, has finally been officially announced by Ubisoft.

The comprehensive Assassin’s Creed roadmap shared by Ubisoft for 2026 and beyond includes many developments that will thrill fans of the series. With the participation of Content Director Jean Guesdon, who has returned to the franchise, critical information was shared regarding both the course of current games and brand new projects on the horizon.

The Black Flag Flies Again: Black Flag Resynced

Ubisoft has finally put an end to the Black Flag Remake (Resynced) rumors that have been circulating for a long time. Following the “launching in January” rumors, a slight delay period, and curiosity about its fate, the development team shared a remarkable message with a nod to the pirate theme: “Speculation around Assassin’s Creed is not new, but it’s worth repeating: ‘Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.’ Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon. 🦜”

This humorous and clear message confirmed that the Resynced version, where the legendary game of the series, Black Flag, will meet modern hardware, is on its way. The approaching days when we will set sail again with Edward Kenway in the Caribbean seas will undoubtedly delight the veterans of the franchise.

A Dark and Unique Experience: Codename HEXE

One of the most intriguing future projects is undoubtedly Codename HEXE. Developed with great care by the veteran team at Ubisoft Montreal, the game promises players a darker, narrative-driven, and unique Assassin’s Creed experience. Set during a pivotal moment in history (likely the European witch hunts era), HEXE seems poised to offer a different flavor than the action-adventure formula we’re accustomed to in the series. The fact that Jean Guesdon has also taken on the role of Creative Director for this project holds great promise for the game’s vision.

Next-Generation Multiplayer Experience: Codename INVICTUS

Codename INVICTUS, which will represent the multiplayer (PvP) wing of the series, is being prepared under the roof of Ubisoft Montreal by a dedicated team of veteran For Honor developers. Progressing steadily with a “test and learn” approach, the project will offer a completely new multiplayer vision, contrary to rumors. The development team aims to shape this new experience together with the players by involving the community earlier in the process. Furthermore, signals were given that the highly popular co-op mode from the past will return to the series.

Other Important Headlines from the Franchise

Other key details in this massive roadmap shared by Ubisoft are as follows:

  • AC Shadows Support Winding Down: Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which launched last year, is getting ready to celebrate its first anniversary. A special broadcast on March 20th will announce the game’s final major updates and the winners of the Parkour Challenge. From this point on, the game will move into its final support phase with smaller updates.
  • Developments on the Mobile Front: Work continues on multiple projects at different stages of development, including Assassin’s Creed Jade.
  • Netflix Series on the Way: There is movement regarding the long-in-development Assassin’s Creed live-action series. Following leaks about the cast, official announcements and first images are expected very soon.

The Awaited 60 FPS Patch for AC Unity Has Arrived!

Not forgetting its older games, Ubisoft presented a wonderful surprise to nostalgia lovers. Assassin’s Creed Unity, which struggled with technical issues upon release but was fixed over the years and is considered by many to have the best parkour mechanics in the series, is receiving a free 60 FPS patch for current-generation consoles! Starting tomorrow, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 owners will finally be able to experience 18th-century Paris and Arno’s fluid movements at a smooth 60 frames per second.

In addition, multiple Assassin’s Creed games will be temporarily available for free as part of the Xbox Free Play Days running from April 2nd to 6th. This is the perfect time to take advantage of this opportunity and play Unity in 60 FPS!

Personally, Black Flag was one of my two absolute favorite games in the series. I have been eagerly awaiting the Remake version for a long time to play the game again. I hope it releases soon and stays true to the original.
