Steam Store Gets a Fresh New Look

Valve has announced a complete overhaul of the Steam store homepage. The updated design is currently available for testing through the Steam beta client. To try it out, simply opt into the latest Steam beta from your desktop client settings.

This update follows the game page improvements made a few months ago. Valve aim to make finding new games even easier with a new layout that displays more content and information at a glance. Higher resolution game imagery is now used throughout for better visual clarity. Users with high-resolution monitors will notice the new homepage is wider and provides a faster, snappier experience. These updates are also visible on Steam Deck and in Big Picture mode.

What’s Changed?

A Completely New Design

Over the years, Valve added many sections to the homepage, which eventually led to a cluttered interface. The new update aims to de-clutter the experience while increasing consistency between interface elements. The result is a more organized and readable homepage that highlights the unique features of each section.

Steam store new homepage design general view

This section now emphasizes why a game is being recommended to you with more detailed information, including a summary of user reviews. Additionally, hovering over a game’s capsule image will trigger a micro trailer, giving you a quick look at the gameplay. Short previews for adjacent games in the carousel have also been added.

Motion Sensitivity Options

Valve has considered users with motion sensitivity. The automatic playback of micro trailers and animated marketing materials can be completely disabled in the store settings.

Sales & Events

This section now utilizes larger game imagery, making it much easier to keep track of ongoing discounts and special events visually.

Updated Discovery Queue

The discovery queue can now be browsed without leaving the page. There’s no longer a need to navigate to a separate page to check out games; you can progress through your queue directly from the homepage.

Hover State Improvements

When hovering over games, a brief description is now displayed along with other key info. The interface has been updated for better contrast and readability.

Infinite Scrolling

The design of the infinite scrolling section at the bottom of the homepage has been refreshed to be both visually and functionally consistent with the rest of the page.

New Sections

The update introduces two highly-requested sections:

  • Your Wishlist: Displays games from your wishlist that are currently on sale, directly on the homepage.
  • DLC for Your Games: Shows discounted DLC for games already in your library, making it easier to find additional content for titles you love.

How to Join the Beta

If you want to try the new look, you can access the updated homepage by joining the Steam beta program in your desktop client settings. Detailed instructions can be found on the Steam Support page.

Valve emphasizes that they make decisions based on data and community feedback. Trying out the new design and sharing your thoughts will directly influence the final version.
