A New Horizon Game Has Been Announced: This Time, It’s an MMORPG
In a surprise reveal at G-Star 2025, South Korean gaming giant NCSOFT, in collaboration with Guerrilla Games, has officially announced Horizon Steel Frontiers. This new title is an ambitious MMORPG set in the critically acclaimed Horizon universe, showcased with a stunning debut trailer.
The Horizon Universe Expands into a Massive Online World
Developed in partnership between NCSOFT and Guerrilla Games, Horizon Steel Frontiers aims to translate the core mechanics of the Horizon franchise into a massive multiplayer experience. Players will step into the boots of a machine hunter in the treacherous region known as the “Deadlands,” carving out their own adventures.
The initial trailer provides a tantalizing glimpse into the game’s world and atmosphere. It features the lush forests, post-apocalyptic vistas, and colossal machine lifeforms that fans of Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West have come to love. The footage highlights both solo and cooperative battles against these massive mechanical beasts, suggesting a strong emphasis on group play.
A Focus on Combat and Player Freedom
“When I first experienced Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017, the idea of exploring this incredible world alone felt a bit bittersweet,” said Taekjin Kim, CEO of NCSOFT. “I imagined how exciting it would be to meet others, team up, and fight these massive machines together.”
Driven by this vision, Horizon Steel Frontiers is being built to offer players extensive freedom. Executive Producer Sung-Gu Lee emphasized that every player will be the hero of their own story, pointing to the game’s deep character customization options. Players can choose from familiar tribes like the Nora, Carja, Oseram, and Tenakth to create their own unique characters.
The game promises to retain the series’ iconic hunting mechanics while introducing the scale and dynamism that only an MMORPG can provide. Large-scale battles against giant machines will require cooperation and strategic thinking.
Cross-Platform Support for PC and Mobile
Jan-Bart van Beek, Studio Director at Guerrilla, expressed his excitement about the collaboration with NCSOFT, stating that the project will bring a fresh perspective to the Horizon universe.
Horizon Steel Frontiers is confirmed for release on both PC and mobile devices, featuring full cross-platform support. More details about the game are expected to be revealed gradually through the official website. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one and will bring you updates as they become available.
