Minecraft Gets Underwater Mounts and Spears!

Major Minecraft Update Incoming: New Weapons and Mounts Added to the Game!

Mojang shared exciting details about Minecraft’s upcoming updates during Minecraft LIVE September 2025. Two major updates, The Copper Age and Mounts of Mayhem, are packed with features that players have been waiting for.

The Copper Age Launches September 30th

The first major news is that The Copper Age update will be released on September 30th, 2025. This update will bring subtle changes to the game’s early-stage tool and weapon progression system. Copper golems will be added to the game, while powered shelves will also become available to players.

New Features Coming with Mounts of Mayhem

The Spear: The Game’s First Long-Range Melee Weapon

The long-awaited spear weapon is finally being added to Minecraft. This weapon can be crafted from copper, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite materials. The spear offers two different attack types:

  • Jab attack: Designed for close-range combat
  • Charge attack: Specially designed for mounted combat

The most interesting feature of the spear is that its damage scales with movement speed. The faster you move, the more damage you deal!

Zombie Horses Make Their Return

Zombie horses, which have only been available in Creative mode since 2013, are finally coming to Survival mode. These green-colored horses will spawn in savanna and plains biomes. While zombie horses themselves are passive, their riders are quite hostile.

Underwater Exploration: The Nautilus

Ocean exploration is about to become much easier. The nautilus, a new underwater mount, can be tamed using pufferfish. When riding a nautilus, the Breath of the Nautilus effect prevents your air consumption.

Like spears, nautiluses can be equipped with five different armor types: copper, iron, gold, diamond, and Netherite. You’ll find these armors in treasure chests.

When Can You Test These Features?

These new features will soon be available for testing in Bedrock Edition preview and beta versions, as well as Java Edition snapshots. The Copper Age update will launch within days, while Mounts of Mayhem features are coming later this year.

Personally, while the showcased content looks appealing, it’s disappointing to see a massive company like Mojang take so long to add such limited content to the game. With over 500 employees across multiple studios, Mojang treating features that modders could implement in a week as major updates feels insulting to players. When you compare this to the substantial updates that Hello Games - a much smaller team - brings to No Man’s Sky, it becomes clear how justified our criticism of Mojang really is.
