Horizon Hunters Gathering Announced: Guerrilla’s New Co-op Action Game

Guerrilla Games has officially announced Horizon Hunters Gathering, a new game set in the Horizon universe. Developed for PlayStation 5 and PC, this co-op action game invites players to team up and battle deadly machines together.

Three-Player Tactical Co-op Experience

Horizon Hunters Gathering brings three players together as Hunters to protect a world under threat from machines. The game preserves the tactical precision of the Horizon series while emphasizing team play dynamics. Each Hunter features distinct melee or ranged combat styles and weapon options. In essence, it’s a live service game.

The game features a rogue-lite build system. Players can select Hunter roles to create combinations that suit their playstyle and team composition.

Two Different Game Modes

Guerrilla has revealed the game’s two main modes:

Machine Incursion: High-intensity missions where waves of machines pour out from underground gateways, culminating in a formidable boss fight.

Cauldron Descent: A longer, multi-stage experience with ever-changing rooms. Players face both brutal machine encounters and hidden doors that promise power and rewards for prepared teams.

Story and World

Horizon Hunters Gathering is fully canon to the Horizon universe. The game will feature an ongoing narrative beyond launch, introducing new mysteries, characters, and threats. While Guerrilla hasn’t shared story details yet, they confirm that each Hunter will have their own motivations and personal struggles.

Hunters Gathering: Social Hub

Between missions, players return to “Hunters Gathering,” a vibrant social hub. In this lively hub area, players can:

  • Customize their Hunters
  • Visit vendors
  • Upgrade equipment
  • Team up for the next adventure

Cross-Play and Cross-Progression Support

The game offers cross-play support between PlayStation 5 and PC. When logged in with the same PlayStation account, cross-progression is also available. Sony got burned by this situation with Helldivers 2. Will we see something similar here?

Closed Playtest Begins Late February

Horizon Hunters Gathering’s first small-scale closed playtest begins at the end of February. Registration for PS5 and PC playtests is available through the PlayStation Beta Program. Guerrilla Games has stated they will provide regular development updates and playtest announcements in the coming months.
