The long-awaited Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is finally pulling back the curtain. Ubisoft has shared the first gameplay footage and detailed information about the remake project they previously announced. One of the most beloved games in the series, Black Flag, has been completely rebuilt after 13 years and will be released on July 9, 2026.
What’s New?
Black Flag Resynced preserves the story of the original game, but Ubisoft has clearly added significant innovations on both the technical and content sides. The game was built from the ground up with the latest version of the Anvil engine, which was also used in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Visual and Technical Improvements
- Ray Tracing Global Illumination (RTGI) and ray-traced reflections
- 60 FPS performance option on consoles
- Graphics assets built from the ground up supporting Micropolygon and PBR (Physically Based Rendering)
- Fully overhauled water physics and simulation
- Dynamic weather with the Anvil engine’s Atmos system: signs swaying in the wind, coconuts rolling in a storm, sails billowing with the wind
New Content and Missions
- New officers assignable to the Jackdaw, each bringing a special ability to naval combat
- Redesigned beaches, new rewards, and unique encounters
- Additional missions and scenes with Matt Ryan recording new lines alongside the original voice cast
- New skins for the Jackdaw and ship pets (cat or monkey)
- Reworked Kenway’s Fleet system: passive income from captured ships
- 10 brand-new sea shanties
Revamped Combat System
- New parry-focused combat mechanic
- New visceral execution animations
- Quick-fire rope dart and pistol usage
- New enemy archetype: Demolitionist
Enhanced Stealth
- Observe Mode expanding Edward’s Eagle Vision
- Crouch-anywhere ability
- Dive-anywhere ability
- Shadows and low light affecting stealth visibility
Reworked Naval Combat
- Shrapnel barrels: explode and damage enemy sails
- 8-pounders: open more weak points on enemy ship hulls
- Enemy ships and factions feature different equipment based on their alliances
Enhanced Parkour
- Manual jump
- Side and upward eject moves
- Faster interruptions between parkour transitions

The game uses an optimized engine scalable to a wide variety of hardware. Software ray tracing options are provided even for lower-end systems. There are also dedicated graphics presets for handheld devices.

The minimum requirements look quite reasonable. Being able to play at 1080p 30 FPS with a GTX 1660 allows access for a broad audience. However, the RTX 4090 requirement for 4K Ultra gives an idea of the game’s graphical intensity.
PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro Features
The PS5 version takes advantage of the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Three different graphics modes are offered:
- Performance Mode: 60 FPS
- Fidelity Mode: 30 FPS (adds ray-traced reflections)
- Balanced Mode: 40 FPS (requires 120 Hz display)
RTGI support is available across all modes. The PS5 Pro version will be ready at launch with additional graphical enhancements and improved PSSR support.
