CD Projekt Red has finally revealed the full details of the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 PlayStation 5 Pro update. Launching tomorrow, April 8, as a free download, the patch brings 4K visuals, advanced ray tracing, and frame rates reaching up to 90 FPS to Night City.

PSSR: AI-Powered Pixel-by-Pixel Upscaling
One of the headline features is PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) support. This technology processes each pixel individually, using advanced AI to upscale the image. The result is a noticeably sharper Night City, with every thermal katana, every pedestrian on the street, and every supercharged sports car rendered with significantly improved clarity.
Enhanced Ray Tracing With BVH8 Support
Lighting has always been central to Cyberpunk 2077’s visual identity. The neon-soaked streets, the oppressive glow of megacorp signage, the way sunlight shifts as day turns to dusk; getting that right is what makes Night City feel alive. The PS5 Pro update takes this further with BVH8 (8-way Bounding Volume Hierarchy) support for ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections.

The studio says the upgrade brings the game’s lighting closer to its original artistic vision. Sunlight catching off the fairing of a Yaiba Kusanagi CT-3X, neon reflections pooling in rain-slicked alleyways; these moments gain a new level of fidelity on PS5 Pro hardware.
Three Graphics Modes to Choose From
The update introduces three distinct graphics modes, letting players prioritize what matters most to them:
| Mode | Features | Frame Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Ray Tracing Pro | All ray tracing enhancements active (reflections, ambient occlusion, shadows, emissive lighting) | 40 FPS on VRR displays, 30 FPS otherwise |
| Ray Tracing | Select ray tracing enhancements, balanced visuals and performance | 60 FPS |
| Performance | Highest frame rate with high image fidelity | Up to 90 FPS on VRR displays |

Ray Tracing Pro is the most visually advanced option, activating every available ray tracing feature while targeting 40 FPS on VRR-enabled displays or 30 FPS on standard screens.
On the opposite end, Performance mode pushes frame rates up to 90 FPS on VRR displays without sacrificing too much visual quality. It is the go-to choice for players who value smooth, responsive gameplay above all else.
Ray Tracing mode sits in the middle, combining select ray tracing improvements with a locked 60 FPS target. For many players, this will likely be the sweet spot.
PlayStation Plus Members Get It at No Extra Cost
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently included in the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog. That means PS5 Pro owners with an active subscription can experience the enhanced version without purchasing the game separately.
The update rolls out on April 8 as a free download for all PS5 Pro users.
