Battlefield's Free-to-Play REDSEC Experience Has Launched!

Battlefield’s Free-to-Play Experience, REDSEC, Has Launched: Here’s Everything You Need to Know

Electronic Arts and DICE have officially launched Battlefield REDSEC, a new, free-to-play experience designed to expand the Battlefield universe. Built on the series’ core DNA, this new title is packed with content for veterans and newcomers alike. Let’s be clear: this appears to be EA’s direct answer to the massive success of Call of Duty’s Warzone. While REDSEC is available as an update for existing owners of the mainline game, it’s also being offered as a completely separate, standalone download for all players.

A Massive New Playground: Fort Lyndon & Battle Royale

REDSEC drops players into Fort Lyndon, a massive, clandestine military facility hidden away in Southern California next to pristine beaches and quiet suburbs. This sprawling map offers a huge variety of combat zones, from modern architectural compounds and abandoned facilities to luxurious mansions and sprawling golf courses.

The main event is a brand-new Battle Royale mode, infused with the signature features that only Battlefield can deliver. Here’s what sets it apart:

  • Tactical Destruction: Whether you’re blowing a new path through a wall or leveling an entire building to expose enemy positions, destruction is in your hands. As seen in the launch trailer, walls crumble, and even massive skyscrapers can be brought down entirely, dynamically changing the battlefield and adding a deep layer of strategy.
  • Fast-Paced Squad Play: The emphasis on squad-based combat means coordination is key. Reviving a downed teammate or making a strategic stand together will be crucial for survival.
  • The Deadliest Ring: The battleground is encircled by a deadly ring of fire that shrinks over time, forcing squads into intense, close-quarters engagements in the final moments of a match.

New Mode: Gauntlet

Also debuting with REDSEC is Gauntlet, a ruthless new elimination-style mode that pits squads against each other in a high-stakes competition.

Gauntlet is structured like a tournament. Squads race to complete objectives, with the lowest-scoring teams being eliminated after each round. Only the best and most efficient teams will advance to the finale to battle for the top spot. This mode promises a fiercely competitive experience that demands quick thinking and seamless teamwork.

Full Access to Portal

REDSEC also includes full, unrestricted access to Battlefield’s acclaimed Portal feature. This massive sandbox allows all players to build, share, and discover their own unique Battlefield experiences, completely free of charge.

How to Download and Play

There are a couple of ways to get into the action:

For Existing Battlefield 6 Players: You already have it. The game was included as part of the recent 1.1.1.0 update. Owners of the main game can navigate to their console’s or PC’s game management settings and will see the 8.4GB base game, along with an optional 28GB high-resolution texture pack.

For New Players: REDSEC is also a standalone free-to-play title. Simply search for Battlefield REDSEC on your platform of choice—including Steam, the EA App, the PlayStation Store, or the Microsoft Store—and download it for free.
